Peggy
was born in Antigonish and raised in Salt Springs, Pictou County, Nova
Scotia. The eldest of ten children, she used the skills of preparing
meals for large number of people to develop the Seven Oaks Catering
business which she owned and operated for six years. For two years,
she was a food consultant for CBC Radio's Information Morning.
Peggy
has always been a people person. At forty, she thought she wanted to
work as a social worker. She took courses at Dalhousie and Acadia
Universities and Addictions Core Knowledge from Saint Francis Xavier, as
she was employed for several years with the Public Service at what is now
14 Wing Greenwood, N.S.
as a drug and alcohol councilor. At the same time she was probation
officer for youth in the Kingston and District area.
When
Peggy's husband Earle, who is a retired RCAF
officer was transferred to Trenton Ontario, she soon found employment as
Executive Director of Big Brothers and Big Sisters for three years. Upon returning to Nova Scotia, Peggy entered politics at the municipal
level and was elected in
three consecutive terms (9 years). She was also elected to a three
year term on the Kings Co. School Board. She was appointed to the
Nova Scotia Advisory Council on the Status of Women for 2 years. She
is considered a valuable member of the Nova Scotia community, volunteering
her time and effort to many groups and boards.
Peggy
has included the humor and comfort of remembering days gone by, with
memories of friends and both her and her husband Earle's, family. This is a light hearted book stemming from her programs on CBC. The requests for a book containing the much used and loved recipes of her
family has been overwhelming. The stories are true and the recipes
have been gathered over the years from family and friends.
For
Peggy, cooking is a way to relax.
Peggy
now resided in a lovely 160 years old home in Nicholsville Nova Scotia,
where she enjoys her children and grand children |
